
The Arc hosted a Membership Meeting for families, self-advocates, members of the community, and staff this summer to reflect on the FY2024 programs and services and learn more about our future in Ocean County. The Residential Services team had much to share, here are the highlights!
- We are focusing on being back in the community with fun activities and day trips to local festivals, concerts, plays, sporting events, boat tours, and more. We also implemented a survey for residents to share their ideas and interests that the entire house can enjoy together.
- We had a vested interest to educate resident's on "self choice" as it relates to their rights and responsibilities. Our top priority is to ensure the rights of our residents are respected.
- We provided additional education to residents on respect, coping strategies, and internet safety.
- In addition to the residents, staff are being trained more frequently and at more locations this year.
- Residential Directors and Managers have put more efficient policies and procedures in place including an electronic scheduling system, cloud based health records, payroll systems, and an electronic maintenance request database.
- Notable strides have been made in staff recruitment and retention for Direct Support Professionals who care for your loved ones. Interview questions have been updated, a revamped New Hire Orientation is rolling out, and more trainings are being offered for success in the DSP role.
- A focus on Health and Wellness for Residents through the My25 Meal Plan pilot program helped offer personalized and proactive meal choices including those with special dietary needs. 70% of the residents moved towards or reached their BMI goals.
As The Arc's Residential Services team continues to reflect and grow, the future looks bright for more housing options for an aging population of individuals with disabilities, focusing on individual choices at home, maximizing resources for greater independence and and community involvement, expanding Health and Wellness initiatives, and providing a quality level of service.
